Activating new Feide functionality for host organizations
By upgrading to the latest version of Feide such access to enable services that are integrated with OAuth2 / OpenID Connect and not just services that are integrated with SAML protocol. Their organization will have access to more services with Feide login.
Services that are integrated with Feide with OAuth2 / OpenID Connect can use functionality such as:
Mobile login with longer login session
Multiple login providers
Access to group data without all users being logged in.
School that provides higher education
Program of study. A student is typically admitted to a particular studieprogram
A subdivision of a studieprogram
All students in a studieprogram admitted in a given year
A subdivision of a kull
Affiliation to a course which is taught and evaluated separately
Steps for upgrading to the latest version of Feide
All new host organizations after 2020 will automatically receive the latest version of Feide. For host organizations that were connected to Feide before 2020, this must be done manually. By 2021, 97% of host organizations have upgraded to the latest version. Check the status of the user directory here!
Upgrading to the latest version of Feide makes it possible to enable services that are integrated with OAuth2 / OpenID Connect and not just services that are integrated with the SAML protocol. Your organization will have access to more services with Feide login.
To use the latest version of Feide, you must:
Upgrade to Schema-version 2.0
You must upgrade to schema-version 2.0 of the Feide. If you are unsure which schema-version your organization is on, Check if your organization has updated to the latest version here!
It is important that you check that there are no errors in the user directory for schema version 2.0. This is done by the Feide administrator from Feide’s customer portal <kunde.feide.no> under the «Tools» tab by clicking on “See errors in user directory” and “Run a check of the user directory”. The report gives you an overview of which attributes are registered and the errors in the user directory. Here you will find an overview and description of most of the error messages.
Errors with groups and roles are particularly important to correct before the upgrade since this is important for use of the group functionality in services
Universities and colleges: Confirm access to group information from FS
For universities and colleges, access to group information from FS must be confirmed. Primary schools do not have to open access to group information since it is stored locally in the LDAP.
Feide has an agreement with Unit for retrieval of the following group information from Felles Studentsystem: kull, klasse, studieprogram, studieretning and emnetilhørighet.
To activate this connection for your business, we will need a confirmation that Feide can retrieve this information.

Contact Sikt at email@example.com with the subject of upgrading to the latest version of Feide, including the name of your organization when you meet the steps above.
Once you have responded to the steps noted above, we will proceed with the technical connection, and perform a simple verification. Once this is completed, we will activate the service “Dataporten” for you in the Feide customer portal. This will not lead to downtime or affect the use of Feide login services you already use.
When everything is ready, you will be notified. Then your Feide administrator can log in to Feide customer portal to activate and deactivate all services. This also includes the services integrated with OIDC configuration that use the new functionality in Feide. Your users will also be able to log in to all such services with the same login screen as before and not notice anything regardless of which protocol the service uses
